“Maybe they can get a full sentence out.” That was Ronna McDaniel, the chair of the Republican National Committee, referring to both President Joe Biden and soon-to-be Senator John Fetterman.

It’s terrible, yes. But it is sadly the price of doing business. What I mean by that is its part of the sacrifice we political junkies make. In the world of politics, comments like that are a dime a dozen. I see them everywhere. They bother me. Some of them make us all ache inside. But they’re sort of here to stay — for now, anyway.

The meanness, and the lack of civility, became especially pervasive after Donald Trump. Released from their cages, the animals came out to play, howling their insanity all over the internet and social media in particular.

It wasn’t just the youth. For the first time ever, adults were playing in the muck. Getting dirty in the unending mud-slinging of hate. Just like with Maga, we can’t put an end to it. We can’t catch all the hate and lock it up to where it’s never heard from again. But we can remain ever-watchful. And we can vote.

The more Democrats win, the less motivated these people will be to spout off the way they do. We’re seeing a drop in their numbers that mirrors the drop in the number of people who attend Trump rallies.

So while we can’t get rid of it completely, we can use it as yet another reason to vote — voting against the vicious, the obscene, and the crazy. That will make the price of doing business very much worth its value.
