MCH tells you the total weight of hemoglobin in an average red blood cell. MCHC (mean cell hemoglobin concentration) tells you how concentrated that hemoglobin is relative to the cell’s size. The normal MCHC is about 34 grams per deciliter of red blood cells. This distinction matters in diagnosis.
