The Hirosaki Castle Snow Lantern Festival surrounds the quaint castle in Aomori Prefecture with a few hundred snow lanterns, hundreds of small igloos known as kamakura, and snow sculptures, in a fantastical display of imagination from artistic locals and even Japan’s Self-Defense Forces.
